Artist: Anders Moseholm

My paintings of different city spaces are not attempts at describing a particular place in the world. The different motifs are fiction which of course originate from impressions of real places in the world I have visited. I seek out places in the city space which seem like they could be anywhere. Places which look the same in all cities and, even if we have not been there before, seem familiar. I want to create a meditative structure of imagery which communicates a mental state of movement and presence as I experience the contemporary age. The city is marked by the fact that many people move from one place to another. When I move through the city space I am confronted with other people who are each going their own way but still gather and meet in the street. I see the city space as the framework for meetings of many different individuals. You see the highest development of human civilization and, at the same time, the deepest degradation. However, that the city in practice holds diversity gives us the belief and the hope that in spite of our differences we can together develop new ideas and solutions to our common problems.
